My toddler is blossoming right before my eyes! Lilah's biggest area of growth this month was in the area of her vocabulary. Not a bad place to excel! Lilah is learning new words each day, they are sounding clearer, and she copies a lot of what we say. For example, if I say "good girl" and "hey, hey, hey" she does a great job of repeating those words. Lilah learned what our eyebrows and eyelashes were in a matter of seconds. She can say them and point to them on our faces and her own. On Avalon's 3rd birthday, 7/14, Lilah starting saying "waffle", "peek-a-boo" and demonstrating with her hands, and "Hooray!" while putting her fist in the air. Lilah can now say the words: outside, butterfly, whale, shark, eye, and hand. She tries to say: I love you, octopus, cards, and dinosaur. Lilah can correctly identify and say the shapes: oval, star, circle, crescent (moon) and heart.
Lilah's 12th tooth, the bottom right one next to her front 2 teeth, cut through on 6/23. Lilah's first dental appt took place on 7/11/12. We were very concerned about how this would go considering she HATES it when we brush her teeth every night. We took her to a pediatric dental office and I could tell she was pretty comfortable there even though she had no idea where she was. All of the employees were very friendly and there were lots of other kids around receiving treatment. Lilah did AMAZING with the dentist, even while he scraped some tartar off the front of her bottom teeth. She whimpered a couple of times, but never even cried or wiggled to get away. Since that appt, our nightly tooth brushing with Lilah has improved a lot. She doesn't even squirm when we brush her bottom teeth, but she's still not a fan of having her top teeth brushed.
On 7/15, Lilah recognized the color blue and associated it with her blue crayon. This completely took me by surprise because we've barely started working on colors with her. I've read that kids aren't really developmentally ready to learn colors until at least 18 months, so I haven't been pushing it much yet. Lilah took a hard fall on 7/10 and ended up with her first goose egg knot on her forehead. My poor babe! That knot on her forehead was present for several days.
Lilah loves to help water the trees in the backyard and play in the water. She wants to go outside a lot more and she says "outside" and points to the back door. She is also starting to recognize when bed time is coming and she starts getting upset. She doesn't want to go to bed... she wants to keep playing of course! When we visit Gramma's house, Lilah wants to go to the school (located across the street from my mom's house) to play and says "scoo, scoo" over and over again. It's very cute. Lilah's obsession with helicopters continues. She loves anything in the sky actually: airplanes, birds, the moon, etc. Lilah has also become more intrigued with motorcycles, boats, and big trucks. I love how interested she is in everything!
