Lilah's 1st Birthday!

Our sweet Lilah turned 1 year old on Saturday, December 17th, 2011! We had planned a big party at our house for all of our family and close friends. We spent the morning decorating the house, picking up pizzas and cake, and preparing appetizers and hot apple cider. My brother Jacob was in town for the holidays, and he was a big help with the decorations. Lilah loved watching Uncle Jacob hang the streamers and blow up balloons!
Our family and friends arrived around noon and the party started. It was great to see everyone again and to have them at our house. We don't host events at our house very often, so it was nice to have people over and celebrate in our home. The appetizers went over well, especially the homemade salsa that Edward's brother, Anthony, had brought over. Edward was on pizza duty while I put Lilah down for a nap. We had several different pizzas, plenty of variety to choose from, and they were quite yummy! My homemade hot apple cider went over quite well. I was happy for that, since that was my first time making that recipe. Actually, my brother Jacob did more work on the cider than I did, so I have him to thank!
After Lilah woke up from her nap we began opening gifts. Boy, there were sure a lot of them! Some really big ones too - like a new convertible car seat and a Fisher Price home playset. Lilah was easily distracted during the gift opening, so I opened most of the gifts for her. She had fun looking at the presents once they were opened, and she played with some of them immediately. My nephew Kai was a great helper. He brought the unopened gifts to me, and he brought the used wrap and bows to my mom so she could throw them away. He was so cute! I know that Lilah will be much more involved in the gift opening for her 2nd birthday, and that will be so fun to watch!
After presents came the moment we had been waiting for...Lilah's first cake! It was a beautiful rainbow cake for my sweet rainbow baby! We sang happy birthday to her and then I helped her blow out her candle. Lilah very tentatively put her fingers into her cake. She was so cute! She really didn't know what to do with the huge piece of cake we had placed in front of her...she's never seen or eaten cake before. She slowly made a mess of the cake, but there was no huge moment where she smashed it or flung it around. She even offered some of her cake to Edward and I. What a sweetie she is!
Lilah had a wonderful first birthday surrounded by all of the people that love her the most. We are so thankful to our family and friends that came over in honor of our daughter's big day. Thank you everyone!

Our friends Leah and Chris weren't able to stay for Lilah's birthday party, so they came over first thing in the morning to drop off Lilah's gift. Here is Lilah opening her gift from them. Love that face!

The Monday after Lilah's birthday, Edward's best friend Kyle and his son Jake came over to hang out with us. We had big plans to watch some football and eat some pizza. Kyle and Jake came over in the afternoon, and then Lilah and I took them to the park to play. We had a great time there! Lilah loved watching Jake play on the play equipment at our local park. Then we headed back home and met up with Edward, who had just gotten home from work. We enjoyed the Niners game...they won, of course! Lilah had so much fun playing with Jake! Even though he's 5 years old and she's only 1, he did so great with her. Can't wait to get together with them again!
