Also in mid April, we made the trek to Davis to support our Alma mater, UC Davis. Picnic Day is their annual event held every April, and it's pretty much the biggest thing to happen in Davis each year. Thousands of students, family, friends, alumni and Davis residents flock to Picnic Day. It's gotten much bigger and much more crowded since I graduated 10 years ago. I still have very fond memories of the 2 Picnic Days I attended while a student at UCD.
We dressed Lilah up in her very own pint-sized UC Davis t-shirt and then set off for Davis, which is about a 40 minute drive for us. The weather that day was expected to be quite toasty, about 85 degrees or so. We made sure to load up on sunscreen after parking the car, and then we headed towards the campus. We tried to find the alumni zone for several minutes but failed miserably. We had a quick rendevous with our friends Meghan and Mark, and then it was off to try and find some kiddie activities for Lilah. The kid zone we found was unfortunately above her age bracket, so we kept on walking. We ended up out in the hot sun watching the frisbee dog competition. It was pretty crowded, but Lilah was still able to get a good look at the talented jumping doggies. She was very distracted, however, by all of the people walking by, and all of the other dogs walking by our location.
We escaped the heat for a bit by heading inside the ARC, which is the new sports recreation center. Lilah had fun climbing all over a bench and trying to run around! Then we headed back out into the heat to watch the sheepdog trials. We watched that for only a little while. It was a bit slow moving, and Lilah was just so distracted by all of the people and animals surrounding us. She was also very tired by this point, so we called it a day and headed home. But not before cruising by the local Davis 7-Eleven so I could snag a slurpee to cool off!
Lilah's shirt for Picnic Day! We bought it last year on Picnic Day for her.
My cutie in her UC Davis shirt sporting some adorable bed head!
Gearing up for a day in the sun with lots of sunscreen.
Hanging out on the quad in the shade.
Taking a break from the heat inside the ARC.
Yes, that's a horse being carried by a helicopter. They were performing a horse rescue for the visitors.
Sheepdog trials!

Somebody was getting sleepy.
My cutie and me!
Lilah was playing with my earrings.
